6 days Cao Bang Adventure

Hanoi, That Khe, Na Papang, Pac Khoang, Na Mieng, La, Ta Lung, Cao Bang, Hanoi
 

This trip is a wonderful balance of adventure and cultural insights and for those who wish to experience the magic of trekking in Northern Vietnam.


We trek through beautiful landscapes and wonderful villages staying in fascinating hilltribe villages, the warm hospitality of Tay families. Come and join us!

Day 1 Hanoi / That Khe / Na Pang Village
We set off by driving to the border town of Lang Son. This town has become a booming trading town since the normalization of relations between China and Vietnam in the early 1990s.


We go to visit To Thi Mountain, which received its name from the local legend concerning the lady named To Thi. 

During the afternoon we hike on magical trails surrounded by several hills and mountains. Where one can observe hilltribe villages. We trek to Na Pang village, home to a Tay people.


We settle into our homestay with a local family, and enjoy the traditional dishes of the area. (Lunch and dinner are included).

Day 2 Na Pang Village / Pac Khoang Village
Beautiful trekking trails and villagers greet us at Pac Khoang village. The terrain is hilly so you should be fairly fit.


During our trek we take time to meet the local people going about their daily life. We head down the mountain away and find the Pac Khoang village.


Here, we spend the night in a simple village of our Tay ethnic minority, a quiet village surrounded by impressive mountains. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included). 

Day 3 Pac Khoang Village / Na Mieng Village
The trek for today is through remote beautiful countryside. We pass through different villages, rice paddies and tea plantations.


We trek in hilly terrain. Later today we are welcomed to our Tay homestay in Na Mieng village where conditions are basic, but nonetheless extremely rewarding. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included). 

Day 4 Na Mieng Village / La Village 
We wind our way up through rugged mountains. We head down to the village of La, set amidst the mountains and home to a Tay community.


The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. Tonight we are toasted as guests and are able to sample some of their locally brewed rice wine. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included). 

Day 5 La Village / Ta Lung / Cao Bang
After breakfast we take a hike through extraordinary mountains then onto to Ta Lung, the border at Cao Bang and China.


This is a short drive takes us through stunning rock formations with cliffs due south to Cao Bang town where our time is free for further exploration.


A stroll around the township and a local market is a fine option for the energetic. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included). 

Day 6 Cao Bang / Hanoi
Heading into south Cao Bang and across Thai Nguyen province, we take a morning hike through picturesque rice terraces and nearby smithing villages. Thai Nguyen is home to one of Vietnam's Ethnology Museums.


An ideal visit before we finally journey back to Hanoi, arriving there at around 5pm. (Breakfast and lunch are included).

Physical activities: 

Our itinerary includes treks with:


- a 10-12 km trek on Day 1.

- a 15-17 km trek on Day 2.

- a 12-16 km trek on Day 3.

- a 14-16 km trek on Day 4.

- a 15-18 km hike on Day 5.

- a 4-5 km hike on Day 6.


We need to be reasonably fit as the hikes and the treks can be challenging sometimes, depending on the weather conditions. 

From July to September, the climate is usually humid and hot. From October to June brings cooler and more pleasant weather.


Transport: 

- vehicle. 

Tour Guides: 

All of our experienced and friendly tour guides speak fluent English. 

They are knowledgeable about local cultures, history and the environment.


Accommodation: 

- hotel (1 night).

- homestays (4 nights). 

Clean homestays with mosquito nets provided. 


Meals: 

- 5 breakfasts.

- 6 lunches.

- 5 dinners. 

We choose local ingredients, typical of the way people eat in the area, at local restaurants, markets or homes. We also cater for Vegetarians but please request this at time of booking.


Trip cost: 

- $498USD per person for a group of 2 to 6 people. 

- $426USD per person for a group of 7 to 8 people.

What to take: 

Pack essentials for 6 days, including light comfortable clothes suitable for outdoor activities, comfortable hiking shoes.

Take a small day pack for walking, hiking and trekking.


It is essential to bring your passport on this trip.
